Speaker : Ir Dr Philco Wong Nai-keung, Projects Director of MTRC

Ir Dr Wong is a civil engineer who has over 35 years of experience in large-scale infrastructure projects in Hong Kong, the Mainland of China and overseas. He is currently the Projects Director of MTR Corporation responsible for the delivery of new railway projects.

Ir Dr Wong is enthusiastic in participating in community and professional services. He is a fellow member of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineers in the UK. He is currently the Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Institute of Engineers and Chairman of the Vocational Training Council’s Advisory Committee of Engineering Disciplines, Construction Collaborative Degree Programmes. He is also the visiting professor of Tsinghua University in Beijing and the adjunct professor of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Details :

Construction of railway in congested urban area and in close proximity to existing railway in Hong Kong is always a challenge for engineers.  The subject in this seminar is to share the construction challenges that MTR has been facing in the current railway projects under construction in the past ten years.  This includes the complicated temporary traffic management system and the underpinning work for existing structures or railway tunnel, etc. on both the technical side and the community’s stakeholders side.  Real examples will be given together with discussion on the engineering solutions.
