详情	:	Dr Lau is a Director of Fong On Construction Limited and James Lau & Associates Limited. He obtained his PhD in Soil Mechanics from Cambridge University. He is the Founder Chairman of AGS(HK), a Past Chairman of HKIE Geotechnical Division, an Adjunct Professor of HKCityU and an Honorary Fellow of HKUST. He is also an AP(List of Engineers), RSE and RGE. Dr Lau has co-authored a Technical Text Book on Slope Stabilization and published technical papers in Geotechnique, Canadian Geotechnical Journal and HKIE Transactions etc. The man-made slope and natural terrain hazards are first reviewed. The strengthening of the sub-standard man-made slopes as well as the mitigation measures for rockfall and debris flow events are then introduced. Finally, the steps taken by government in reducing the hazard risks for both existing and new development projects are discussed. Some of the issues related to Buildings Department's Dangerous Hillside Orders and routine maintenance of slopes will also be addressed.

1.	The registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
2.	A registration number will be generated for each application. The registration number is unique and non-transferrable. Members cannot proceed to payment if they do not apply the CPD event and obtain the registration number through the HKIS website.
3.	Payment can be made by cheque or by Credit Card (Shanghai Commercial Bank Ltd. / American Express). Cheques should be made payable to “SURVEYORS SERVICES LTD.”. A separate cheque or Credit Card payment instruction form is required for each event/ application. You should write down the registration number and HKIS membership number at the back of your cheque. The HKIS Secretariat will update the payment status and your application will be confirm when HKIS Secretariat receive your payment.
4.	Payment by PayPal is also acceptable. Please register in our web site before the closing date for each event. Please be reminded that if you cannot settle the payment within 7 days from the date the HKIS Secretariat accepted your registration, your registration number will be invalid and your application will be rejected. Your name will not be included in the registration list and you cannot attend the concerned CPD event. (Not applicable for site visit / social event / joint event with other organisation)
5.	An official receipt which must be presented at the event, will be available for downloading from the "CPD Profile" under Members Corners when payment is received.
6.	Incomplete or wrongly completed registration will not be processed.
7.	In the event a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted, the event will be postponed and a new arrangement will be announced. Should the aforesaid warnings be lowered 4 hours before the event, the event will proceed as normal.
8.	If you have not received any reply from HKIS Secretariat within 7 days of the event, you may call the Secretariat at 2526 3679 to check the progress of your registration.
9.	The HKIS reserves the right of final decision and interpretation in the case of any disputes.

3.	While the HKIS has arranged Group Personal Accident insurance for members joining the above visit, members who have been accepted for joining the above visit can consider procuring an appropriate insurance policy to cover their own risks before attending the event.
4.	Claims related to COVID-19 and/or pandemics are excluded under the insurance policy procured by the HKIS.
