项目名 : ''Energy Performance Contracting: Implementing Energy Retrofitting Projects in Existing Buildings''
学会持续专业发展编号 : Formal Events
讲师 : Dr. Patrick Lam and Mr. Pan Lee

Patrick Lam has had rich professional and academic experiences since graduating from the Hong Kong Polytechnic in the 1980s. On the professional side, he had practiced for 10 years in multi-disciplinary design office, consultants and contractor/developer both in Hong Kong and Singapore. On the academic side, he has had substantial experience lecturing on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in universities and polytechnics both locally and overseas. Whilst teaching, Dr. Lam is active in research and consultancy projects. An academic team led by Dr. Lam was awarded a General Research Fund for carrying out the investigation into the use of Energy Performance Contracting in Hong Kong.

Pan Lee is currently a PhD candidate studying in the Department of Building and Real Estate at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He obtained a BEng degree with first-class honors from the Department of Building Services Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2011. Before pursuing for a PhD degree, he worked for Parsons Brinckerhoff (Asia) Ltd. as an assistant engineer. His research interests include energy performance contracting, green buildings, contract management and risk modeling.

Apart from fabrics, many existing buildings need upgrading of their M & E installation to improve energy efficiency.  Owners often face constraints in upfront costs and technological know-how in implementing building energy improvement projects. To tackle these problems, Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) has been developed since Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) would help building owners to conduct energy audit, design and install energy conservation measures (ECMs), provide guarantees of energy savings, as well as monitor the ongoing performance of the installed ECMs. Building owners only make payment after satisfactory completion or progressively when the actual energy savings are realised. In some cases, ESCOs may help building owners to finance the upfront cost to alleviate cash flow problems.

This seminar will address the following aspects:

  • A model of Energy Performance Contracting and process
  • Potential benefits and caveats of EPC
  • EPC contract template for use in HK
