Proposed Green Deck over Cross Harbour Tunnel plaza, a project led by a Task Force with Council Member of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Mr Alex Lui as Chairman has recently won the “Merit” award in the Research and Planning category in the Green Building Award 2014, a biennale event jointly organized by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) and the Professional Green Building Council (PGBC).

The proposal is to build a Green Deck over the Hung Hom Harbor Tunnel Toll Plaza to bring about major social and environmental improvements to this area. The Green Deck would connect to PolyU pedestrian podium on the west and to Hung Hom Station podium on the east, creating a new platform for pedestrian activities above ground in a landscaped park of about 4.3 hectares in area.

This proposed project is an innovative solution to problems in Cross Harbour Tunnel vicinity such as poor air quality, overloaded footbridge, poor connectivity within the district and lack of open space. This proposal will not only provide people with a green open space to unwind from the hustle and bustle of city life, but also help foster sustainable development through a number of research projects undertaken by PolyU experts.
