詳情	:	Damon is a Partner with the Projects (Engineering and Construction) Group of the international law firm Hogan Lovells. He initially qualified as a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer and is a Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Since he subsequently also qualified as a solicitor, Damon has undertaken a wide range of both contentious and non-contentious construction related legal work. In particular, he has handled a large number of construction related litigation and arbitration proceedings involving extensive expert input over the years. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and acts as an arbitrator. The long-standing immunity from suit enjoyed by experts in legal proceedings has been abolished by the UK Supreme Court on 30 March 2011 in its recent decision in the case of Jones v Kaney. In light of this and other important recent legal authorities (UK) on conflict of interest and independence of experts, it is perhaps time to revisit the duties of an expert witness. The speaker will discuss the expert’s role in relation to legal proceedings in light of the recent developments and authorities and look into the Supreme Court’s reasoning for abolishing the expert’s immunity from suit. This should be an area of major interest and concern to surveyors who act as or intend to become expert witnesses and/or have to deal with experts in or as a result of any legal proceedings.

1.	The registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
2.	A registration number will be generated for each application. The registration number is unique and non-transferrable. Members cannot proceed to payment if they do not apply the CPD event and obtain the registration number through the HKIS website.
3.	Payment can be made by cheque or by Credit Card (Shanghai Commercial Bank Ltd. / American Express). Cheques should be made payable to “SURVEYORS SERVICES LTD.”. A separate cheque or Credit Card payment instruction form is required for each event/ application. You should write down the registration number and HKIS membership number at the back of your cheque. The HKIS Secretariat will update the payment status and your application will be confirm when HKIS Secretariat receive your payment.
4.	Payment by PayPal is also acceptable. Please register in our web site before the closing date for each event. Please be reminded that if you cannot settle the payment within 7 days from the date the HKIS Secretariat accepted your registration, your registration number will be invalid and your application will be rejected. Your name will not be included in the registration list and you cannot attend the concerned CPD event. (Not applicable for site visit / social event / joint event with other organisation)
5.	An official receipt which must be presented at the event, will be available for downloading from the "CPD Profile" under Members Corners when payment is received.
6.	Incomplete or wrongly completed registration will not be processed.
7.	In the event a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted, the event will be postponed and a new arrangement will be announced. Should the aforesaid warnings be lowered 4 hours before the event, the event will proceed as normal.
8.	If you have not received any reply from HKIS Secretariat within 7 days of the event, you may call the Secretariat at 2526 3679 to check the progress of your registration.
9.	The HKIS reserves the right of final decision and interpretation in the case of any disputes.
