講師	:	Mr. Harrison C. H. Cheung Harrison Cheung is a practicing barrister, HKIAC accredited mediator, adjudicator and arbitrator. He is also a chartered civil engineer and holds academic qualifications in the disciplines of civil engineering (Imperial College, U.K.), engineering geology (University of New South Wales), arbitration and dispute resolution (City University), practicing accounting (Monash University), business administration (Polytechnic University) and law (City University). Mr. Cheung has over 20 years’ experience working in the construction industry before embarking his second career as a barrister. He now practices in both civil and criminal litigations, arbitrations and mediations, with particular focus on the construction and commercial disputes. He is also on the panel list of the dispute resolution advisers (DRA) maintained by the Government and is currently acting as DRA for 4 projects. He is also appointed as the Chairman of Buildings Appeal Tribunal and member of the Guesthouse Appeal Tribunal.

詳情	:	As a Surveyor, it is very often to be called upon to interpret a contractual clause whenever a dispute arises. Sometimes, the interpretation is not that straight forward. There may be ambiguities and inconsistencies in different provisions of the contract. There may be times when something happens but the contract has no provisions to deal with the matter. Parties would also argue there are pre-contractual negotiations which they may rely upon to interpret the actual meaning of a phrase in the contract etc.. Interpretation of a contract seems to be a topic which every professional in the construction industry is longing for. The talk aims to provide some general principles in this area and hopefully help the participants to grasp some of these essential ideas such that the same may be applied in their daily operations.

1.	The registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
2.	A registration number will be generated for each application. The registration number is unique and non-transferrable. Members cannot proceed to payment if they do not apply the CPD event and obtain the registration number through the HKIS website.
3.	Payment can be made by cheque or by Credit Card (Shanghai Commercial Bank Ltd. / American Express). Cheques should be made payable to “SURVEYORS SERVICES LTD.”. A separate cheque or Credit Card payment instruction form is required for each event/ application. You should write down the registration number and HKIS membership number at the back of your cheque. The HKIS Secretariat will update the payment status and your application will be confirm when HKIS Secretariat receive your payment.
4.	Payment by PayPal is also acceptable. Please register in our web site before the closing date for each event. Please be reminded that if you cannot settle the payment within 7 days from the date the HKIS Secretariat accepted your registration, your registration number will be invalid and your application will be rejected. Your name will not be included in the registration list and you cannot attend the concerned CPD event. (Not applicable for site visit / social event / joint event with other organisation)
5.	An official receipt which must be presented at the event, will be available for downloading from the "CPD Profile" under Members Corners when payment is received.
6.	Incomplete or wrongly completed registration will not be processed.
7.	In the event a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted, the event will be postponed and a new arrangement will be announced. Should the aforesaid warnings be lowered 4 hours before the event, the event will proceed as normal.
8.	If you have not received any reply from HKIS Secretariat within 7 days of the event, you may call the Secretariat at 2526 3679 to check the progress of your registration.
9.	The HKIS reserves the right of final decision and interpretation in the case of any disputes.

1.	I confirm that I fully understand and accept the risk of joining the above visit. Under no circumstances shall The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors ("HKIS"), their staff or agents be held liable for the consequence of any accidents whether or not they are caused by the negligence of the HKIS, their staff and/or agents.

3.	While the HKIS has arranged Group Personal Accident insurance for members joining the above visit, members who have been accepted for joining the above visit can consider procuring an appropriate insurance policy to cover their own risks before attending the event.
4.	Claims related to COVID-19 and/or pandemics are excluded under the insurance policy procured by the HKIS.
