詳情 :

Public space is a unique physical space that allows people from different backgrounds to use for free so as to fulfil various societal needs with its different functions and features. Undoubtedly, it is an indispensable component of our city.

Public attention on the issues of public spaces have been attracted since the public space at Times Square was found to be leased for commercial use in 2008. After 9 years from the incident, has the problem been solved? Are there any other issues related to public space overlooked by the public? How should we make the best use of public spaces?

This seminar will present the interpretations of the concepts and functions of the public space from different angles of NGOs and government departments, including the Planning Department, the Lands Department and the Buildings Department. The current problems associated with public spaces will also be analysed.

Mr. Wong will also share his experiences and challenges encountered in organising community engagement programmes for promoting public spaces, such as “Walk DVRC - Des Voeux Road Central Initiative” and “Design Our Dream Park” Yau Ma Tei Community Project. He will also discuss the way forward and recommendations on the future development of public space.
