Ir WONG is the Senior Project Manager of Wing Shing Caisson & Foundation Ltd. During his more than 25 years experience in construction industry, he has extensively exposed to Excavation and Lateral Support (ELS) and Piling Works. As a main contractor/ sub-contractor, he has managed various projects with different scale from tendering stage to construction stage and upon completion subsequently settlement of final account. Especially, he has faced different kinds of construction challenges during the construction stage. As a qualified engineer working in a specialist foundation contractor, all these construction difficulties have been overcome and resolved tactfully.

In the talk, the speaker will share his experience on ELS and Piling works including:-

  • Briefing on different types of ELS and piling commonly used in Hong Kong,
  • Introducing the structural elements of each types of ELS and piling,
  • Associated constructional plants and equipment to be deployed for each types of ELS and piling,
  • Challenges and safety measures to be encountered during construction, and
  • Case Study : A typical sample of completed project for Site Formation, Socketed H-Pile Foundation and ELS Works at location of Peak Road region, which comprised pipe piles with steel lagging and tie-back nails, grout curtain & pumping test, sheet piles, waling & struts for the ELS system (the excavation depth is about 11m) and socketed H-piles for the foundation, and also soldier piles for site formation of retaining wall. A common right of way (one-way width) being shared with adjacent lots of residence is the main construction access for in/out of the site from the Peak Road.
