Message from PFM Chairman (January 2010)

Proposed Reciprocal Recognition withThe Hong Kong Institute of Housing As members may be aware an Open Discussion Forum wasarranged by the Council on 4 January 2010 with a view togather PFM members' comments in this respect. The Forum was well attended by some 40 members. Debate indeed did not simply end with the Forum but was held in several other occasions. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those members who attended the Forum and others whohave offered constructive advice to the Council. Owing to thediversified opinions received, it was decided by the Council in its meeting of the same evening to conduct a Division-wide members' opinion survey. To this end, a questionnaire will be prepared and sent out to all PFM members shortly. Please select the Council know your comments when you receive the questionnaire. Proposed Reciprocal Recognition with the China Property Management Institute as a follow-up action of our Vice Chairman's visit to Beijing in December 2009, Dick Kwok prepared a letter, which was signed by our President, and sent it to the China Property Management Institute (中國物業管理協會) on 7 January 2010 inviting its 謝家瑾會長 and other Council officials to visitour Institute. A copy of the letteris attached herewith for members'reference. The Council will update PFM members regularly on any future development. Listing of Organisations providing Propertyand Facility Management Services The Council intends to maintain a list of organisations providing professional consultancy services of property andfacility management surveying in our Divisional web page.Any interested organisation may download the applicationform from the Division's web page at http://www.hkis.org.hk/hkis/html_pfm/index.jsp and return it together with the required. documents to the HKIS Secretariat Office. It was decided by the Council that listing would not be confined to limited companies but may be extended to include non government organisations.Please note that organisations wishing to be listed must fulfill the following requirements: 1. Being an organisation registered in Hong Kong; 2. Being an organisation providing professional services of property and facility management surveying; and 3. Having at least one Corporate Member of the Institute (in the Property and Facility Management Division) working full-time in a senior position. CPD Events Update It is our pleasure to have invited Fellow Member, Mr James Pong, to speak in the evening of 15 March 2010. He will brief members jointlywith his colleague, Mr Francis Yeung,of the Environmental Protection Department, on the essential environmental law affecting property and facility management surveyors.This will be the first of a series of similar seminars arranged by our Division. Please check for more details in the CPD section of this Surveyors Times. Another upcoming event which willbe organised in April 2010 concerns Heritage Conservation in Hong Kong. Please watch out for more details in the next issue of Surveyors Times.
