Message from PDD Chairman (May 2010)

Urban Renewal Strategy Review The HKSAR Government Development Bureau is now inviting comments from all stakeholders, relevant professional bodies and the general public on the latest Urban Renewal Strategy Review. In this connection, the HKIS has formed a Working Group chaired by Mr Tony Tse to formulate the Institute’s views and comments in this regard. Francis Lam will represent the Planning and Development Division to join this Working Group and the first meeting of the Working Group was held on 25 May 2010. Focus Group Meeting on How to Enhance Public Engagement in Transport Infrastructure Development The HKIS has been invited by the Kadoorie Institute of The University of Hong Kong to participate in their Focus Group Meeting on public engagement in Hong Kong transport infrastructure development on 13 May 2010. Our Division’s Vice Chairman, Mr Raymond Chan, represented the Institute to contribute views on the possible framework of public engagement at the meeting. The objective of the Focus Group Meeting is to solicit views from different social sectors in the community on the framework, scope, timing and methods of public engagement in transport infrastructure development. CPD Events On 29 April 2010, we had a very useful CPD Talk delivered by Dr Isaac P. L. Yip concerning mental health in the workplace and in particular how to address stress and depression caused by workload and long working hours. About 30 members attended the CPD Talk and received good health advice from the speaker. Mr Mok York Yee, who is the Chairman of the Professional Development and Education Board of Macau’s Valuers Association as well as our Division’s Hon Treasurer, will deliver a CPD Talk on the Land Administration System in Macau on 29 June 2010. Although Macau is physically very close to Hong Kong, it has a very different land administration system when compared with Hong Kong and other countries adopting English Law System. We believe York Yee will be able to help the audience understand the land administration system of Macau through his concise briefing. Our Division’s Vice Chairman, Mr Raymond Chan, also kindly agreed to give a CPD Talk on the topic of Section 16 and Section 12 Applications under the Town Planning Ordinance on 5 August 2010.
