Message from YSG Chairman (December 2011)

The Beginning of an Amazing Journey

It was 9 years ago. It was my first time to visit the HKIS Secretariat at Jardine House. I was one of a few freshgraduates sitting in a corner in the meeting room. We were together with a large group of young and smart professional surveyors, attending the monthly meeting of the Junior Organization (now the Young Surveyors Group). Although I cannot recall what exactly were discussed in the meeting, the spirit of “Work Hard, Play Hard” has embedded in my mind.

At that moment I stepped into the meeting room, I could never imagine I would have gained so many invaluable opportunities and memorable experience: winning the Dragon Boat Championships, visiting the victims of Sichuan Earthquakes, attending the Shanghai World Expo, joining the HKIS delegations to International conference, and etc.. Without YSG, my life will never be the same.

The hard works of the passionate and energetic JO / YSG Committees have demonstrated to me the unlimited possibilities of young professionals. They created all the above magical moments, events, people and places, which have enriched my life, as well as many other young members’ memories.

YSG Annual General Meeting 2011

I am honored to have the opportunity to take up the Chairmanship of YSG in the coming year. In the YSG AGM held on 25 November 2011, our incoming YSG Committee was successfully elected. We will try to maintain our traditions, team spirit and values to our young members today and tomorrow. It will never be an easy task for us, given the numerous achievements and successful track records in our proud history. I hope our works in the coming year, could become the beginning of many other amazing journeys for our fellow young members.

I must express my sincere thanks to Arthur Cheung, our Immediate Past Chairman, for his dedication in paving a bright path for us and leading us to a new height in the past year. I must also thank our new team of Office Bearers and Committee Members for their contributions of time and efforts that they have committed to our profession in advance.

Apart from the names above, we will need one more bigname to be added in the list to make things happen: It’s your name! We need your ideas, suggestions, support and active participation for our coming events. You may email us at [email protected], or attend our YSG committee meetings, which will be held on the first Friday of each month.
