Year Plan
During the AGM, I briefly introduced my goals and plans for the coming term. They are the 4Cs: Continuity, Coherence, Comments, and Communication.

  • Continuity: To develop a strong YSG team with an experienced committee and continue to recruit new blood to serve the huge number of younger members.
  • Coherence: YSG is a big family for student members, probationers, and young qualified members from the various divisions. Through the numerous CPDs, social events, gatherings, and charity functions, we aim to form a bond among our committee members and develop their sense of belonging.
  • Comments & Communication: With representatives on the different boards, sub-committees, and working groups of the HKIS and the various divisions, we hope that the voices and suggestions of our members could be forwarded to the HKIS, each division, and our functional constituency in the Legislative Council.

Events Highlight
BSD/YSG APC series – Preparation for Self-Assessment Report and Final Assessment
After the new Rules & Guide of the BS APC came into effect on September 2012, the BSD and YSG jointly organized the PQSL of the BSD APC Series – Preparation of Self-Assessment Report (SAR) & Final Assessment – on 19 December 2012.
The event attracted more than 100 attendees. Both Mr. Alex Wong and Mr. Peter Dy, who are very experienced assessors of the APC of the BS, generously shared their expertise with the attendees so that they could understand the details to be included in the SAR, as well as the assessors’  expectations of candidates during the Final Assessment, the passing of which will qualify a candidate as a building surveyor!

We have already planned a series of APC workshops for probationers in the different divisions, so please stay tuned!

PolyU BRESS Annual Dinner 2012
As the sponsors, the YSG’s representatives, including Kenny Chan, Simon Wong, and I, attended the BRESS Annual Dinner organized by the 19th session of the Building and Real Estate Student’s Society of the HKPU on 29th November 2012. This was a remarkable night because there were two outstanding alumni present who shared their valuable work experiences with over 70 students. We, on behalf of the YSG and some mentors and alumni, also had an enjoyable night sharing our experiences with the students and helping them understand more about our profession and the industry.

Surveyors League 2012
One of the largest YSG social events, the Surveyors League, successfully held championship matches on 20 January 2013. The top four teams fought hard and made the final two matches very exciting. Finally, the Avengers beat RLB 48:40 and won the champion’s cup, while Langdon Seah won ROCK in 47:45 and received the bronze medal. The top scorer award went to Kimo So of the Avengers. We were very pleased that our President, Sr Stephen Lai, was able to attend the prize presentation. Also, we would like to thank the event conveners, Iris and Jeff, and all the helpers for serving on consecutive weekends. More photos of the events can be seen on the back cover.

Education & Careers Expo 2013
Hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the Education and Careers Expo 2013 will be held from 31 January to 3 February at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The HKIS will have a booth there to provide information on the route to different memberships and the career prospects of the different divisions. Please feel free to visit us!

Chocolate Tasting
Valentine’s and White Valentine’s Day are coming soon, so we are now arranging a chocolate-tasting class for members to try different kinds of chocolate in early March. Please join us in studying the factors behind excellent chocolate and pick the best ones for your loved ones. For details, please refer to the flyer on the separate page.

CPD, Social Event and Study Tour 2013
We have already scheduled a variety of seminars, APC workshops, and social events for our members. If you have suggestions for the topics to be presented, please feel free to e-mail us. An e-questionnaire will be sent out soon to collect your ideas on the above events, especially the study tour. Kindly reply and let us know your preferences on the destinations, information to be achieved, admission fee, trip duration, and other suggestions.

YSG Needs You

If you are interested in becoming one of us or have any enquiry, kindly e-mail us at [email protected]. You are also welcome to attend our monthly regular meeting that is held on the second Monday of each month. Therefore, the next meeting will be on 4 February 2013 at 7pm. On behalf of the YSG committee, I wish you all a prosperous year of the snake! Kung Hei Fat Choy!
