Message from QSD Chairman (February 2011)

The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2011 was held on 20 February 2011. I joined the HKIS Running Team for the full marathon, which commenced early in the morning at 6:20 am. Although it was about 13 degrees Celsius with showers at the beginning, most participants enjoyed such weather conditions. Finally, I finished the challenge of the 42.195 km in 5 hours. Thanks to Mr Lesly Lam for co-oordinating the HKIS Running Team in the event. Results of APC The results of the Assessment of Professional Competence held last September have been issued to all candidates. About 80 candidates passed both the written assessment and interview of the APC however the submitted diaries, records of pre-qualification structured learning and critical analysis of some of the candidates did not satisfy the requirements of the APC. Re-submission is required from these candidates prior to being elected as a Member. Congratulations to 57 candidates who can become elected members of the Institute after the processing by the Board of Membership and the General Council in March 2011. Lunch with the Board Chairman of the RICS UK World Region Quantity Surveying & Construction Professional Group The Vice President of HKIS and five Officers of the QSD Council met Mr David Bucknall, the Board Chairman of the RICS UK World Region Quantity Surveying & Construction Professional Group and officials from the RICS Hong Kong Board at a hotel in Wanchai on 22 February 2011. Collaboration in training and organising CPD events for quantity surveyors in Hong Kong were discussed. This was the first meeting between the QSD of HKIS and RICS Hong Kong Board. Both parties concurred that further meetings could be arranged for co-operation issues. Renewal of Registration of PRC Registered Cost Engineers The first batch of 65 HKIS members who became PRC Registered Cost Engineer in 2008 will be required to renew the registration for the 4-year period. The divisional representatives will work with our counterparts, the China Engineering Cost Association (中國建設工程造價管理協會), in PRC for the details of the renewal process. Members should pay attention to the requirements for change of employment and renewal of registration, in particular on the continued professional development (繼續教育). Further details will be announced once available.
