Liaisons with the RICS Geomatics Professional Group (GPG)
With regard to the possibility of the mutual recognition of membership between the LSD and RICS GPG, the first meeting was held on 4 August 2014. During the meeting, a new form of mutual recognition of membership at the divisional level between the LSD and RICS GPG was proposed. In this connection, a working group comprising representatives from the two sides was formed. The HKIS Team is now studying the relevant information, such as the previous and current agreements, and the MoU with both the RICS and ICES.
Annual HKIS CEPA Visit to Beijing

CIC BIM Standards Discussion Forum
To allow members to share their experiences as construction industry practitioners using BIM, to present the industry’s views and concerns, to summarise its benefits and constraints, and to propose the way forward for the strategic implementation of BIM in Hong Kong, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) has arranged a BIM standards forum with the LSD Council. Those who have an interest in this area may contact the LSD Council for the presentation materials.
Construction and Engineering Surveying Affairs
In parallel with our research to collect the relevant employment statistics of LS members working in government infrastructure projects, a similar study is also being conducted by the CIC. I attended an interview and provided some LSD’s statistical findings and views for its reference to work out the manpower situation of the construction industry in the near future. The preliminary findings showed that a shortage of professional land surveyors had been foreseen.
The 2014 Biennial LSD Guangdong-HK-Macau Interflow Visit
The biennial LSD Guangdong-HK-Macau interflow visit to Chaozhou is being arranged and will be held by the end of October. Our vice chairman, Joseph WONG, and other council members recently conducted a “reconnaissance” of the site with the Guangdong Provincial Association of Surveying and Mapping (廣東省測繪學會). Please stay tuned for more details.
