Updates on the Registered Fire Engineer (RFE) Scheme
The Security Bureau issued a letter to the HKIS on 19 May outlining the RFE qualifications framework and confirming the positive vetting of the proposed amendment bill. The proposed RFE qualification accepts professionals with relevant academic qualifications, such as a building surveying degree, or experienced building surveyors to register as RFEs if they meet the requirements of the top-up course and have relevant work experience. The Fire Expert Panel considers the RFE qualification framework acceptable in principle, but the relevant work experience and contents of the top-up course should be further examined. A response was issued to the Security Bureau on 2 June.
