Details : Building neglect has been a long-standing problem in Hong Kong. The presence of ageing buildings which lack proper care and maintenance poses potential threats to residents and the public at large. The lack of proper maintenance and improper use of windows also pose a serious threat to public safety. “Prevention is better than cure”. If owners can regularly inspect their buildings, identify problems at an early stage and carry out remedial works timely, accidents can be avoided. Full implementation of the Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme / the Mandatory Window Inspection Scheme was already commenced on 30 June 2012. This talk will introduce details of the two schemes and address the concerns about the role of building professionals under the Buildings Ordinance. In addition, there will be experience sharing on the implementation of the two schemes over the past years as well as the salient points on the carrying out of building and window inspections and supervising repair works.
