Fire safety in buildings is determined by a number of factors: the provisions of means of escape in case of fire, the ability for a building to resist the effects of fire and to minimize the spread of fire and smoke and the provision of means of access to enable firefighters to effect rescue and fight fire.  Following a comprehensive review on fire safety in buildings, the Code of Practice for Fire Safety in Buildings 2011 "the Code" was first issued in 2011 with effective from 1.4.2012. The Code provides the prescriptive means of compliance (Deemed-to-Comply provisions) and the guidelines for adopting the fire engineering approach. The Code has been reviewed regularly and the Buildings Department always welcomes suggestions for improving the Code. In this seminar, Sr Hung will introduce the background and development of the Code and the recent major changes to the Code. There will be a Q&A session, if time permits.
