Details	:	Turning Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) from an administrative into a statutory process is usually taken as a key indicator for advance development of EIA system in a place. In Hong Kong, the EIA Ordinance was enacted in 1997 and has been applied to designated projects that might have adverse impacts on the environment, in particular for major infrastructure projects. Over the past years, one can see the general increase in public awareness of environmental protection and the demand for more transparent EIA process and better public engagement. Stakeholders with different interests may also resort to legal challenges on projects which they considered as detrimental to their interests. Some cases in Hong Kong, e.g. the Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project and the Integrated Waste Management Facilities, were challenged in courts, causing delay to projects, economic losses and social resentment. This talk will share with the audience the challenges experienced and lessons learned from the 18-year implementation of EIA Ordinance in Hong Kong and describes its effectiveness for public understanding of how decisions are made throughout the EIA process.

2.	A registration number will be generated for each application. The registration number is unique and non-transferrable. Members cannot proceed to payment if they do not apply the CPD event and obtain the registration number through the HKIS website.
3.	Payment can be made by cheque or by Credit Card (Shanghai Commercial Bank Ltd. / American Express). Cheques should be made payable to “SURVEYORS SERVICES LTD.”. A separate cheque or Credit Card payment instruction form is required for each event/ application. You should write down the registration number and HKIS membership number at the back of your cheque. The HKIS Secretariat will update the payment status and your application will be confirm when HKIS Secretariat receive your payment.
4.	Payment by PayPal is also acceptable. Please register in our web site before the closing date for each event. Please be reminded that if you cannot settle the payment within 7 days from the date the HKIS Secretariat accepted your registration, your registration number will be invalid and your application will be rejected. Your name will not be included in the registration list and you cannot attend the concerned CPD event. (Not applicable for site visit / social event / joint event with other organisation)
5.	An official receipt which must be presented at the event, will be available for downloading from the "CPD Profile" under Members Corners when payment is received.
6.	Incomplete or wrongly completed registration will not be processed.
7.	In the event a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted, the event will be postponed and a new arrangement will be announced. Should the aforesaid warnings be lowered 4 hours before the event, the event will proceed as normal.
8.	If you have not received any reply from HKIS Secretariat within 7 days of the event, you may call the Secretariat at 2526 3679 to check the progress of your registration.
9.	The HKIS reserves the right of final decision and interpretation in the case of any disputes.
