The growing importance of sustainability becomes a hot topic in the industry, while it helps corporations not only demonstrating their responsiveness to the environmental and social concerns, but also manages one’s operating efficiency and impacts its core business strategy.

In terms of regulatory compliance, following the introduction of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange's ("HKEx") Environmental, Social and Governance Reporting Guide ("ESG Reporting Guide") listed in Appendix 27 of the Main Board Listing Rules and Appendix 20 of the GEM Listing Rules, the HKEx is planned to raise the level of obligation of ESG report publication from “voluntary” to “comply or explain” from 2015 onwards. While it can be expected that listed companies will comply, it is the companies’ position to promulgate the best practices of responsible business and hence our involvement in co-developing the United Nations Global Compact responsible business best practice toolkit for the land, real estate and construction sectors.

The responsibility of ESG includes corporate reporting, supply chain management, business operations and advocating corporate sustainability. In this seminar, we aimed to provide you with the introduction of ESG reporting, stakeholder engagement process, the reporting framework with 4 subject areas and their aspects, especially for the land, real estate and construction sectors. Furthermore, we will provide you with the general pictures of carbon footprint calculation by greenhouse gases ("GHG") measurement, discuss with you the carbon strategies development, environmental costs and effects weighting and the effectiveness of resources allocation in order to set up the KPIs and planning for the improvements within short and long terms and discuss on how this regulatory compliance would impact the real estate sectors.
