Ir Prof. Wong has been an university academic for over twenty four years teaching/supervising students and conducting researches in the areas of concrete technology and repair, fire engineering, and earthquake engineering. Before he became an academic, he worked in Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick & Partners for five years.

Prof. Wong is active in providing consultancy service in the investigation of concrete failure and the recommendations of concrete repair. He also involves in developing product certification schemes of construction materials.

At present, Prof. Wong is the Acting Head of Department of Civil Engineering of Chu Hai College of Higher Education. He is a Fellow of HKIE, Vice President of HKCI, Member of Technical Committee on the CoP for Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme (MBIS) of Buildings Department, Registered Inspector, and HOKLAS Technical Assessor.

Details :

This talk will address the damage mechanisms of concrete under elevated temperatures. A case study is used to illustrate the procedure to assess various damage levels of reinforced concrete building after fire attack, and the associated repair methods. Finally, the prevention measures of explosive spalling of high strength concrete under fire, as recommended by the current Code of Practice of Structural Use of Concrete 2013, will be discussed.
