Speaker	:	Sr Phyllis So & Ir Edmund Chau of Clyde & Co. Sr Phyllis So is a legal director in Clyde & Co. and a professionally qualified quantity surveyor. She is also a chartered arbitrator, with experience in acting both as a mediator and an arbitrator. She has long experience of working in the construction industry in Hong Kong, Macau, PRC and the wider APAC region, and has special expertise in construction contract law and dispute resolution. Ir Edmund Chau is an associate in Clyde & Co. concentrating on construction law and practice including non-contentious contract advisory work and contentious litigation, mediation and arbitration. He is also a professionally qualified civil engineer and a member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He has considerable experience in advising clients on construction projects in a number of jurisdictions including Hong Kong, Macau, PRC and various developing countries such as Angola and Jamaica.

Details	:	Building contracts can be executed in different formalities: by deed or in simple form. What are the practical effects between different formalities, in particular what will be their effects on liabilities of different parties under the building contracts? In this talk, the speakers aim to explain the distinctions between different formalities, and to understand their wider implications under the Limitation Ordinance (Cap. 347) by reference to some leading cases.

1.	The registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
2.	A registration number will be generated for each application. The registration number is unique and non-transferrable. Members cannot proceed to payment if they do not apply the CPD event and obtain the registration number through the HKIS website.
3.	Payment can be made by cheque or by Credit Card (Shanghai Commercial Bank Ltd. / American Express). Cheques should be made payable to “SURVEYORS SERVICES LTD.”. A separate cheque or Credit Card payment instruction form is required for each event/ application. You should write down the registration number and HKIS membership number at the back of your cheque. The HKIS Secretariat will update the payment status and your application will be confirm when HKIS Secretariat receive your payment.
4.	Payment by PayPal is also acceptable. Please register in our web site before the closing date for each event. Please be reminded that if you cannot settle the payment within 7 days from the date the HKIS Secretariat accepted your registration, your registration number will be invalid and your application will be rejected. Your name will not be included in the registration list and you cannot attend the concerned CPD event. (Not applicable for site visit / social event / joint event with other organisation)
5.	An official receipt which must be presented at the event, will be available for downloading from the "CPD Profile" under Members Corners when payment is received.
6.	Incomplete or wrongly completed registration will not be processed.
7.	In the event a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted, the event will be postponed and a new arrangement will be announced. Should the aforesaid warnings be lowered 4 hours before the event, the event will proceed as normal.
8.	If you have not received any reply from HKIS Secretariat within 7 days of the event, you may call the Secretariat at 2526 3679 to check the progress of your registration.
9.	The HKIS reserves the right of final decision and interpretation in the case of any disputes.
