Sr Phyllis So is a legal director in Clyde & Co. and a professionally qualified quantity surveyor. She is also a chartered arbitrator, with experience in acting both as a mediator and an arbitrator. She has long experience of working in the construction industry in Hong Kong, Macau, PRC and the wider APAC region, and has special expertise in construction contract law and dispute resolution.

Ir Edmund Chau is an associate in Clyde & Co. concentrating on construction law and practice including non-contentious contract advisory work and contentious litigation, mediation and arbitration. He is also a professionally qualified civil engineer and a member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He has considerable experience in advising clients on construction projects in a number of jurisdictions including Hong Kong, Macau, PRC and various developing countries such as Angola and Jamaica.

Building contracts can be executed in different formalities: by deed or in simple form.  What are the practical effects between different formalities, in particular what will be their effects on liabilities of different parties under the building contracts?  In this talk, the speakers aim to explain the distinctions between different formalities, and to understand their wider implications under the Limitation Ordinance (Cap. 347) by reference to some leading cases.
