Background

CEDD and PlanD launched the Stage 1 Public Engagement (PE) for the Pilot Study on Underground Space Development in Selected Strategic Urban Areas (the Study) on 7 November 2016.

The Study aims to identify the opportunities and challenges of underground space development in the four selected Strategic Urban Areas (SUAs), namely Tsim Sha Tsui West, Causeway Bay, Happy Valley, and Admiralty/Wan Chai, explore suitable underground space development proposals within the areas and formulate Underground Master Plans for wider districts to guide future underground space development. The PE Digest is available in the following website:- http://www.urbanunderground.gov.hk

In this presentation, the speakers will present the Study objectives, key considerations, development constraints and preliminary planning concepts to utilize underground space in the four SUAs for improving pedestrian connectivity, enhancing living environment and creating space with a view to address district issues and promote social development in a densely developed urban environment.

The participants can exchange the views on the Study including the preliminary planning concepts, key considerations and potential uses of underground space.
