Sr Ben K K Fan is the Research Officer at Planning Department (PlanD). His research areas focus on land surveying and geo-informatics, especially on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), remote sensing and photogrammetry in PlanD. He has worked on various projects in PlanD, including the Pearl River Delta (PRD) land utilization assessment project, the annual updating exercise of the Land Utilization in Hong Kong, Aerial Photograph Information System (APIS), Mobile Computing and Site Information System (MOCSIS) and 3D GIS Planning System. His research areas and contribution have enabled PlanD to develop an edge in the applications of land surveying and geo-informatics technologies for various town planning purposes. Before joining PlanD, he had worked in the consultants and private firms for various GIS and engineering projects.

In this event, the speaker will present the latest and advanced multi-platform 3D survey technologies, data (e.g., very high-resolution satellite images, historical / current aerial photos, and UAS images) and results (e.g., high-resolution, textured, 3D Mesh Models, Digital Surface Model (DSM), orthophoto) in support of various town planning purposes including land use change detection and classification, planning control and enforcement tasks. The speaker will also share his experience and views of Land Surveying Profession in promoting and enhancing the use of UAS, GNSS, remote sensing and photogrammetry technologies for town planning and smart city development.
