The course consists of 2-half day events.

Due to rapidly growing interest among contemporary architects in the use of curtain wall systems as building enclosure.  The seminar takes a performance-based approach to explore in-depth the processes of design and construction of building envelopes, with an emphasis on the background and technologies behind curtain wall systems.  Aesthetic and technical issues encompassed by curtain wall design in current local practice will be addressed.

As curtain wall designs continue to evolve and become more complex and unique, but the performance requirements generally remain consistent.  Structural adequacy, air infiltration and water tightness are three basic performance requirements in curtain wall system.  The customization of curtain wall systems reinforces the need to specify mockup performance testing that not only fulfilling regulation but also to find out design, fabrication and installation weaknesses at a time in a relatively easily and inexpensive way.  In second part of this seminar, performance mockup test procedures will be presented and discussed.  It will also review case studies of failed performance tests and common installation errors that could compromise performance.
