The speaker will discuss the following in this talk:-

Pricing or preparing estimates based on standard documents, formal method statements or case examples of similar nature can only satisfy usual projects. Complex projects like most of the large-size building or civil jobs, or other special facilities and structures, usual measurement techniques may overlook a large number of items that may have significant cost implication and make the estimates far from accurate.

The main problems causing this insufficiency may be coming from the complexity of the project nature, unique construction planning requirements, specific site layout settings, multi-layer work sequences, involvement of a large amount and costly temporary works and so forth. In another words, estimators should be well-familiar with the construction technology and operation detail that needed for the job in order to avoid such overlooking.

This talk will highlight some of these “special projects”. Critical design concerns and work components in particular for the provision of some essential temporary works that having significant cost implication usually encountered in these kinds of complicated and extremely large-size projects will be reviewed. Large number of case references being studied by the speaker in the past 20 years will be used to substantiate the discussion in this talk.
