Fire resisting rating is defined with three basic criteria, including stability, integrity and insulation. Insulation criteria was previously applied for fixed fire barriers rather than active fire barriers; like, fire doors, fire shutters and fixed lights. PRC is the pioneer country applying insulation criteria for active fire barriers. In the recent years, insulation criteria is also gradually adopted by some other cities and countries for active fire barriers, like Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Singapore, Malaysia etc.

In this talk, the speaker will highlight the significance of insulation criteria for fire separation and compartmentation. He will introduce new fire shutters with different insulation performance and different orientation design for meeting space constraint and the special requirements of the architects and property owners. He will also give a briefing on how to budget the cost for insulated fire shutter projects.
