The Paris Agreement sets out an action plan to reduce the impacts of climate change. Countries signed the said agreement agreed to (1) keep the increase in the global average temperature below 2°C, and (2) aim to control the temperature increase to 1.5°C to lessen impacts of climate change. Buildings in Hong Kong consume 90% of the total electricity consumption and generate 60% of the total carbon emissions. In fulfilling its obligation under the Paris Agreement, the government has set a carbon intensity reduction target of 65-70% by 2030. This seminar will explore and review various building energy saving measures in response to climate change. These include a review of the Building (Energy Efficiency) Regulation, Guidelines for Energy Efficiency of Residential Buildings, Building Energy Code, Energy Audit Code, Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme, gross floor area concession scheme, environment and conservation fund, green lease, and so on.
