The talk will give general coverage on BIM application in Power Utility company with more emphasis and details on the contents of the revamped Existing Building tool in comparison with the preceding version of the Tool.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a process for managing information on an engineering construction project across the project lifecycle. Traditional engineering design was mostly represented by two-dimensional technical drawings and documents. BIM extends this beyond the three spatial dimensions (width, height and depth) to other dimensions such as ‘time’, ‘cost’, etc. It also covers spatial relationships, light analysis, geographic information and properties of the facility components. With this process, the digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics the facility, BIM Models can be developed to enhance decision making.

CLP Power (CLPP), being the largest electricity supply company in Hong Kong, had employed BIM successfully to enhance the project performance in safety, work planning and coordination, streamline work process, supporting sustainability, environmental and operational aspects. BIM improves the collaboration among designers, contractors and suppliers in delivering the project. This process also can be deployed for the facility management. The talk will share the experience of BIM applications during the different project lifecycle stages in CLPP.
