Speaker’s biography
Dr. Xin Li is assistant professor at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, City University of Hong Kong. Before joining CityU, she taught at Columbia University and MIT in the United States and the IUAV University of Venice in Italy. With 10+ years of research experience in brownfields, she has served as a consultant to the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection and the World Bank in brownfield policymaking projects. She has a PhD degree in Urban and Regional Studies from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

Details :

The lecture will have two components. Brownfields issues will be discussed in the context of land use changes in the industrial and post-industrial societies. The first part covers general information about the formation of brownfields (past), existing obstacles for redevelopment (present), and its prospect (future), drawing on examples from the United States. The second part looks into cases in Hong Kong and Mainland China, discussing unique challenges policymakers face.
