Abstract

Surveyors could discover more reality to stakeholders from geospatial perspective (e.g. 3D point cloud model for BIM/project planning, or structure inspection without scaffolding, etc.) by using Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS航拍機, or called UAV / Drone).

Photo and video captured by visual (RGB) camera on UAS are the most effective way to display features or objects in inaccessible area. This could not only enhance safety of surveyors working under difficult and dangerous area, but also reduce the costing on labour and production. Images from thermal camera could further discover features such as crack and water leaking on façade, by heat signature, which would be well defined and anticipate potential major degradations.

“Collision-tolerant” technology of UAS helps surveyors in assessing difficult environment such as underground, confined space, box culvert, and high-rise utility plant. This is a new era of surveying inspection. Sr Lam would share his experience of using this new UAS technology in this seminar.
