Details :

These days, we have seen that the advent of 5D BIM (Building Information Modelling) will have a significant impact on the work of the Quantity Surveyor. This is not only in terms of efficiency and accuracy, but with BIM revisions, the QS can play a more important role in the project overall.

With construction projects, traditionally there may be limited communications between the parties and separate designs with staggered issue. When the QS creates an estimate, the quantities will often be out of date by the time it is completed.

However, BIM Revisions enable living cost planning- the ability to estimate something that is based on current design. With 5D and BIM, the QS is able to instantaneously review a revision of a model at any stage and across any element of the design.

In this presentation, we will explore how these BIM revisions can enable a rapid analysis of comparative designs. Furthermore, the huge impact that this can have on the input that a QS can give to the project- providing instantaneous feedback of cost to the design team at an earlier stage. When the QS becomes a more important part of the project, the whole construction team benefits!
