Speaker : Mr Damon So
Damon is a Partner with the Construction & Engineering Practice of the international law firm Hogan Lovells. Damon So initially qualified as a Chartered Civil and Structural engineer. Since becoming qualified as a lawyer within the Construction & Engineering Practice, he has advised clients on the full remit of issues that clients may face in the construction sector. Damon has significant experience in advising on construction contracts and helps clients prepare and negotiate such contracts. Damon has handled a large amount of construction related arbitration, litigation and alternative dispute resolution over the years. He has been involved in advising on and drafting a variety of construction related contracts using various standard forms including NEC3 form and is a member of the NEC Asia Pacific Users' Group Steering Committee. He has spoken widely on topics relating to construction legal issues for various professional institutes and companies.

Ms Joyce Leung
Joyce is a Senior Associate in the Construction & Engineering Practice of Hogan Lovells. Joyce has undertaken a range of non-contentious construction work, including advising and drafting contracts and other related documentation for employers, contractors, consultants and statutory bodies. She has advised on a range of construction legal issues, including matters relating to contract interpretation, defects, delay, variation and payment. Joyce also has experience in a range of commercial and contentious matters, including litigation and arbitration proceedings, with a particular focus on construction disputes. She is a member of the NEC Asia Pacific Users' Group Steering Committee. She frequently speaks to different stakeholders in the construction industry on relevant legal issues.

This seminar is intended to give an overview of some of the main contractual issues that quantity surveyors face during the course of a project that may give rise to legal disputes. They include in particular delay, variation, payment and termination.  The speakers will also examine briefly how NEC3 (and the new NEC4) differs from the traditional forms of contract and whether and how it may help address the usual problems.
