Speaker	:	Sr Thomas Ho Thomas is the Past President (2016-2017) of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors. He was also the Chairman (2011-2012) of the Quantity Surveying Division of The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and the Chairman (2015-2016) of Surveyors Registration Board. He is the Managing Director of TLS & Associates Ltd., a Quantity Surveying Consulting firm on Hong Kong Government list and has worked as a quantity surveyor for over 30 years both in building and infrastructure works. Thomas is a Fellow of the HKIS, Fellow of CECA, accredited mediator of HKMAAL, HKIAC and HKIS/HKIA and was the mediators in several mediation cases in construction and financial disputes.

Details	:	With the increasing number of aged buildings in Hong Kong, building maintenance and repair are essential to ensure safety of such buildings. However, owners of such buildings may not have professional knowledge on the maintenance and repair works and hence may find it difficult to assess whether the tenders for repairing works of their buildings are reasonable or not. Due to the difference in nature between new works and maintenance and repairs works, the tendering and cost control system used in new works and maintenance and repair works may be different. There are criticisms on the tendering and cost control system used in maintenance and repair works and whether the tendered prices of such works are reasonable or not. In this presentation, Sr Ho will briefly explain the tendering and cost control system commonly adopted in new works and maintenance and repair works, based on his experience in both new works and maintenance and repair works, and suggest ways to improve the tendering and cost control system in maintenance and repair works.

1.	The registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
2.	A registration number will be generated for each application. The registration number is unique and non-transferrable. Members cannot proceed to payment if they do not apply the CPD event and obtain the registration number through the HKIS website.
3.	Payment can be made by cheque or by Credit Card (Shanghai Commercial Bank Ltd. / American Express). Cheques should be made payable to “SURVEYORS SERVICES LTD.”. A separate cheque or Credit Card payment instruction form is required for each event/ application. You should write down the registration number and HKIS membership number at the back of your cheque. The HKIS Secretariat will update the payment status and your application will be confirm when HKIS Secretariat receive your payment.
4.	Payment by PayPal is also acceptable. Please register in our web site before the closing date for each event. Please be reminded that if you cannot settle the payment within 7 days from the date the HKIS Secretariat accepted your registration, your registration number will be invalid and your application will be rejected. Your name will not be included in the registration list and you cannot attend the concerned CPD event. (Not applicable for site visit / social event / joint event with other organisation)
5.	An official receipt which must be presented at the event, will be available for downloading from the "CPD Profile" under Members Corners when payment is received.
6.	Incomplete or wrongly completed registration will not be processed.
7.	In the event a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted, the event will be postponed and a new arrangement will be announced. Should the aforesaid warnings be lowered 4 hours before the event, the event will proceed as normal.
8.	If you have not received any reply from HKIS Secretariat within 7 days of the event, you may call the Secretariat at 2526 3679 to check the progress of your registration.
9.	The HKIS reserves the right of final decision and interpretation in the case of any disputes.
