In an attempt to explore different options and possibilities to deliver a sizeable amount of Transitional Social Housing (TSH) in a relatively short period of time, The Design Institute for Social Innovation (DISI) is now working with our cross-sector, cross-disciplinary design teams to study how advanced technologies such as Modular Integration Constructions (MiC) and retrofitting of existing buildings can be used to reimagine underutilised sites to provide TSH. This presentation will highlight the challenges of this co-design process and the initial findings of the studies to showcase how different construction methods and modern technologies can be applied to reimagine deserted sites such as abandoned villages, vacant school sites and Short Term Tenancy sites to accelerate housing provision and promote community cohesion.
