Speaker : Sr Michael Wong

Michael has managed the survey works on over 20 major projects in Hong Kong, a wide range of infrastructure, building & rail works projects throughout his over 23-year career in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. He possess solid surveying experience, which involved construction of XRL West Kowloon Terminus North, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge – Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities, MTR South Island Line Tunnel, Austin Station and Lok Ma Chau Terminus, DSD Tunnel, T2 – SkyPlaza, APM tunnel, KCRC Siu Hong & Tuen Mun Station, HK Jockey Club Shatin Racecourse Parada Ring Redevelopment, Chek Lap Kok Airport – Passenger Terminal Building. He is majorly responsible for managing & planning all Survey and Instrumentation works, hence involving and supporting engineering and design issues.

Alongside his survey expertise, Michael obtained FHKIS, FHKInstES, FCInstCES, MRICS, MHKICBIM & CCBM, he is an advocate of BIM and other innovative construction technologies. Under his management, the comprehensive BIM is not only building but also civil projects, of the T1 Annex Bldg & Car Park 4 Expansion Project and Passenger Clearance Building of HZMB has continuously streamlined design and construction workflows and decisions. He has applied suitable latest technologies including UAV & Reality Modeling as well as Laser Scanning based on various site conditions to achieve more efficient, accurate and safer monitoring of the survey works. Pre-Clash analysis generated by BIM before the actual physical construction taking place drastically helps eliminate uncertainties, simulate underlying impacts pre-analysis by BIM which can benefit the project in saving cost and lessening remedial effort.

Michael is enthusiastic to participate in Survey and BIM institutional and industry work. He established Hong Kong Institute of Civil and Building Information Management (HKICBIM) on 22-Sep-2017 and recently (Sep-2019) established The Hong Kong Alliance of Built Asset & Environment Information Management Associations (abbreviated as HKABAEIMA) 香港建設資產及環境信息管理聯盟. HKABAEIMA is a newly established not-for-profit organization to foster societal collaboration for smarter information management across built asset and environment. The Alliance is founded by three (3) associations (i.e. Hong Kong Geographic Information System Association (HKGISA), Hong Kong Institute of Civil and Building Information Management (HKICBIM) & Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling (HKIBIM)) which specialized in Information Management for Built Asset and Environment industries. The Alliance forms a platform to gather all experts and professionals in built asset and environment information management for sharing their experience and collaborating to develop cross-discipline information flow for better integration of the use of information within our built asset industry and to drive digital transformation in line with global development, hence HKABAEIMA successfully formation “building SMART International – Hong Kong Chapter” in October 2019.
