Sr Dr Calvin Keung is a quantity surveyor by profession and a CIC-Certified BIM Manager. He is one of the core academic staff teaching quantity surveying and BIM at CityU. To keep pace with the increased BIM talent demand, Sr Dr Keung designed the BIM curriculum and set up BIM courses for undergraduate students. Sr Dr Keung adopts a collaborative approach to BIM education, so he has developed innovative tools and facilities supporting interdisciplinary BIM teaching and research. In recognition of his dedication to BIM teaching, Sr Dr Keung was awarded BIMers 2020 by the Construction Industry Council.

Measurement is a core competency of the Quantity Surveyors (QS). Despite the progress of BIM technology, some basic principles and skills of measurement are still essential for the QS to accomplish the traditional cost management tasks. There are two sessions of this PQSL and they cover the following topics:
1. Standard methods of measurement
2. Basic measurement rules
3. Preliminaries and preambles
4. BQ preparation
5. General practices of measurement
6. Fundamental BIM QTO

The purpose of the QSD PQSL 2021 is to help QSD probationers and Associate Members to enrich the basic knowledge in quantity surveying practice and prepare for the APC examinations. There shall be various series of PQSL events, namely Measurement, Procurement, Standard Form of Building Contract, Contract Administration and Specialization which cover various topics such as Measurement Techniques, Measurement of Building Works and Building Services Installations, Tendering, Report on Tenders, Variation and Post-Contract Cost Control, Payment Valuation and Final Accounts, Contractual Arrangement, Liquidated Damages and Extension of Time, Direct Loss and Expense Claims, Dispute Resolution, Liquidation and etc.

This event is recognised as the Divisional PQSL event and it counts for 1.5 PQSL hours (each part). Whether the event could be regarded as the PQSL event for other Division’s APC scheme or not shall be determined by the APC candidate’s respective Division. This event does not count for CPD hours.
