Speaker : Mr Damon So
Damon is a partner in the Construction and Engineering Practice of the Hong Kong office of international law firm Hogan Lovells. He is one of the few lawyers listed in the “Hall of Fame” (for Construction) of Legal 500, a leading legal directory in Hong Kong and recognised as a leading individual in various authoritative legal directories.

Damon initially qualified as a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer. He is a Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (MHKIE) (Civil & Structural disciplines). Since also qualified as a solicitor, Damon has undertaken a wide range of both contentious and non-contentious construction legal work, representing a variety of employers, contractors, consultants, statutory bodies and insurers, in respect of both building and civil projects, both in Hong Kong and the region. He acts as an arbitrator and has had substantial experience in other dispute resolution procedures including mediation. He is a HKMAAL Accredited Mediator and a Panel Mediator of HKIAC. He has also spoken widely on topics relating to arbitration and construction legal issues.

Ms Janice Cheng
Janice is a senior associate in the Construction and Engineering practice of the Hong Kong office of Hogan Lovells.

Janice has advised on a range of construction legal issues, including matters relating to contract interpretation, defects, delay, variation and payments. She has also undertaken a wide range of non-contentious construction work, including drafting and negotiating contracts and other related documentation for employers, contractors, consultants and statutory bodies.

Damon and Janice are the co-author and contributor respectively of leading textbooks "The Annotated Ordinances of Hong Kong – Arbitration Ordinance (Cap. 609)" and "Butterworths Hong Kong Alternative Dispute Resolution Handbook".

Damon and Janice will discuss the latest legal developments on liquidated damages, in particular in the context of early takeover of the site and early termination of the construction contract and their impact on administration of construction contracts generally.
