Details :

The Hong Kong Palace Museum is an important art and cultural facility situated in the West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong. Based around a contemporary interpretation of classic Chinese visual and spatial aesthetics, the museum design builds on a concept of linked courtyards translated into a vertical series of atriums that draw the visitor upwards.

Located adjacent to the Art Park and facing Victoria Harbour, the façade system consists of 4,022 unique double curved aluminium cladding panels with thousands of structural steel supports at the back. This exceptional complex system shapes the personality of the main reinforced concrete structure. Thus, the Hong Kong Palace Museum will provide a distinctive cultural bookend to the District at its western end.

This talk will introduce practical solutions to challenges encountered during the tendering, design and construction stages of the project. It also provides an opportunity to explore the latest technologies for projects with complex profiles and understand the perspective to approach problems in next projects.

The contents of the talk are as follows:-

  1. Introduction
  2. Project Background and Tender Preparation
  3. Wah Tung’s Scope of the Works
  4. Technologies being adopted
  5. Challenges and Solutions
