Urban informatics is the emergent transdiscipline integrating urban science, computer science, and geoinformatics, aiming at developing more efficient and sustainable cities. Under the framework of urban informatics, this speech introduces three recent advances in the digital twin technologies for smart cities: a) the multi-platform and multi-sensor mobile mapping system for generating city digital twins; b) the quality control technologies for photorealistic 3-dimensional models for ensuring the quality of the city digital twins; and c) the smart city platform for data management and analytics of city digital twins. The speech concludes with an outlook of the future trend of city digital twins, as well as the latest development in the urban informatics community.
