Background

In order to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community and to improve the healthcare service quality, the HKSAR Government has set aside a dedicated provision of HK$200 billion and announced the 10-year Hospital Development Plan (HDP) in 2016, and a further HK$270 billion for a second 10-year HDP in 2019. The two HDP involve not just construction of new hospitals and supporting service centre, but also redevelopment/extension of the existing hospitals.

These capital works projects involve huge amount of financial injection (HK$470 billion), and also talent of building professionals involving in the project design, planning and implementation in meeting the future service needs.

For the existing hospitals which have served for some decades, these shall be improved and converted with necessary alteration and addition (A&A) works to meet the operational efficiency. Such enhancement works shall be demanding and challenging especially under such critical impact by Covid-19 pandemic.

This Series consisted of 2 CPD seminars respectively for planning of new hospital projects and the facility management and works related to the existing hospitals and 2 site visits (remarks: one to HASSC and the other one being arranged) for Hospital Authority's (HA) projects.

Project Information

The first site visit is about the construction of a 6-storey high building project to serve HA as a supporting services centre which is known as Hospital Authority Supporting Services Centre (HASSC) in Tung Chung next to North Lantau Hospital. This industrial building comprises a new central laundry centre, a central food production unit for providing patient food service, an IT corporate data centre, and a central emergency store for personal protective equipment storage. HASSC will serve as a supporting centre to cope with the long-term rising demand for public healthcare services.
